Evaluation of whole production
Review of Work
In this production there were many constraints and setbacks that we had, through time management, the availability of interviews, financial and legal limitations, also reaching all the requirements of the client, and being able to communicate well with the whole class, and to all agree on one basis. Upon the feedback we received from our client, implementing the feedback to suit the needs of our client.
The first major setback being time management, due to us having to create this production, during the exam season of other students, including our selves, finding time to do interviews with students, staff, etc was quite difficult, having exams our selves also meant that we were focusing on revision for our exam subjects, and thus allocating time for this production proved to be difficult. Although the pre production work was finished, the filming took a while to get started and after exams had finished many students were not attending the school.
Thus the 6th form particularly was empty most of the time, and thus filming for the second part of the production, was also difficult and having to film classes that were not full, or either no teaching going on, there was very few year 13 students, as they are the oldest and mature students we wanted to film them, but there was a significant lack of students to interview, or they just did not want to be filmed, either way allocating time to film, or finding students to film took a large part of our time and thus the production did take longer than expected.
The client also provided us with feedback, and during the negotiated brief that we had with him, he wanted us to promote the school to the prospect students, the existing students, also the prospect students parents, and already existing parents. However he did not want us to 'sell' the school as in to exaggerate everything and show the school in a 'best' way, but to show the school in an ordinary day and the important aspects of teaching and student safety rather than making the school look amazing and 'fun'. Although we did film the break and lunch times to show to the prospect students of the routine and how their day would go, also by showing the 'fun' aspect of the school we would engage the prospect students who are of a young age.
Communication was also another problem that we encountered within our production, due to some members not being able to join the group chat we created, and also due to a few members having exams and thus not being able to come to lessons in order, to generate and implement the ideas we put into our production, when we were all together we collaborated effectively and came up with ideas, and then split up to film, to be more productive. Agreeing on one idea proved to be challenging, as we did sometimes have different ideas on how to do the production, but both sides compromised and we reached agreements through discussion.
The financial constraints that we had also was a point to consider while making our production, due to us having no funding we could not use extra money to add in anything special into our production, this then meant that we had to create the production with the equipment that we was given, and to just use the cameras and the editing software in order to create the production, this could effect the overall quality of the production, however it could be argued that, due to the nature of our production funding would not have been an essential part of it, as we were filming the school for our client, and thus funding a would not be possibly required. However i still do think that extra funding could allow us to portray things better, or allow for prizes etc to be bought to show to the prospect students of how good behavior is rewarded in our school.
Finally legal constraints, having to film in our school, meant showing the different classrooms and the different subjects that the school offers, this meant filming when there were active lessons going on, and due to some of the classroom shots, having 30+ students in them asking them all individually if they were fine with us filming would add to the already long production time, and thus we opted to ask for the teachers permission instead, some teachers refused, whilst some students deliberately hid from the camera, so we could not use those footage, although they were corrected eventually and we filmed all the shots that we needed, the use of release forms where only for the interviews that we conducted, as they were in front of the camera for a longer period of time, and thus we only asked for permission to film them. This was a setback in receiving permission to film staff and students.
